Sufi Approaches to Education: The Epistemology of Imam Al-Ghazali

The goal of this paper is to explore the sufi pedagogy that aims inculcate devout worship and happiness amongst students. Methodologically, research qualitative in nature focuses on literature Imam Al-Ghazali. After data has been collected, material results are presented systematically with an epistemological analysis. conclusions as follows: ontologically speaking, science not abstraction object being observed, but essence knowledge a divine light radiates soul (al-ruh ilahiyah) exists all humans. Epistemologically, can be obtained through optimization reason. Hence, mujahadah riyadhah tasks must undertaken by students order secure mukasyafah. In terms axiology, means get closer Allah, gain world hereafter. That why profile learning outcome education ulama' akhirat; namely scholars who have following characteristics; ‘abid, zahid, ‘alim, faqih mukhlish.
